What is a straight stairlift?
A straight stairlift is a motorised chair that runs on a single, linear rail fitted to a staircase without bends or landings. It’s designed to move users safely between floors with minimal strain.
Key characteristics
- Rail: One continuous straight track mounted to the stair treads (not the wall).
- Drive: Battery-powered motor for smooth, controlled travel (and operation during power cuts).
- Controls: Armrest rocker/switch; two remotes to “call/send” the lift.
- Safety: Seatbelt, obstacle sensors, speed governor, swivel seat for safer transfers.
- Space-saving: Foldable seat/arms/footplate to keep stairs usable for others.
