About EMS Lifts
Trusted Mobility Specialists Since 1988
Trusted Mobility Specialists Since 1988
For over 35 years, EMS Lifts has been helping people move safely and confidently around their homes.
What began as a small partnership servicing and repairing stairlifts has grown into one of the region’s most trusted independent providers of stairlifts and mobility solutions. Today, we support families across Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Buckinghamshire, Northamptonshire, Norfolk, Oxfordshire, Lincolnshire, Suffolk, London and surrounding areas.
We remain proudly independent, focused on providing the right solutions to our customers, who have always been at the centre of everything we do. Our focus from when we first started to today, is still about providing long-term customer care and mobility solutions that really work, rather than short-term sales.
Where
It All Began
It All Began
Our story started in 1988, when Leonard Edgell and Thomas Halsey formed Electro Mechanical Services to service and repair stairlifts, Gimson lifts and hoists in Stevenage, Hertfordshire.
From day one, aftercare was central to the business. Building strong relationships with manufacturers and providing dependable service quickly became the foundation of our reputation.
In 1995, Michael Armstrong joined the partnership, expanding the company into supplying and installing stairlifts alongside servicing and repairs. This marked the beginning of EMS as a full mobility provider.
In 2006, the company entered a new chapter when Jonathan Muir joined the partnership. Shortly after, EMS was incorporated as EMS Lifts Ltd and moved into its purpose built stairlift and mobility showroom in Baldock, Hertfordshire. That site remains our home today and is the largest showroom in the UK.
A Family Led Business
That Puts People First
That Puts People First
Although we have grown significantly, we have always remained a family focused company.
Matt Armstrong joined in 2006, followed by Alex Muir in 2010. Both worked their way through the business and now serve as Directors, continuing the values established right from the beginning.
We believe in developing people for the long term. Steve Francis joined as an engineer in 2007 and progressed to General Manager. His son Jack later joined as an apprentice and is now a Senior Engineer. Across the business, many of our team members have built long careers with us.
For our customers, this means consistency, experience reassurance through familiar faces. For us, it means a culture built on loyalty, accountability and pride in our work.
Independent Advice
Tailored To Your Home
Tailored To Your Home
As independent suppliers, we are not tied to one manufacturer.
This allows us to recommend the right stairlift or mobility solution based purely on your home, your needs and your long-term plans. Whether you need a long term solution, or simpler aids that vary from straight stairlifts, curved stairlifts, bariatric models through to powered wheelchairs, walking aids or home lifts, we guide you through the options clearly and honestly, only recommending options that will help improve your mobility.
Our commitment to providing the right product is why every installation begins with a detailed home survey. We consider the space available, staircase configuration, user requirements, safety considerations and future needs. Our goal is always the same: to make your home safer and easier to live in.
More Than Just Installation
Complete Aftercare
Complete Aftercare
Installing a stairlift or other mobility product is only part of the answer.
From the very beginning, we’ve placed strong emphasis on servicing, maintenance and long-term support. We provide ongoing support with our Diamond Care Plan, which encompasses rapid repairs, and access to 24/7 support, ensuring our customers always have peace of mind.
Our engineers are locally based and manufacturer trained. With the support of our customer care team we are able to respond efficiently, and quickly, to keep customers informed and maintain high service standards.
For us, peace of mind is something that installing a mobility solution alone doesn’t solve, it’s the years of reliable support going forwards that matters most to our customers.
