In 1995, Mick Armstrong joined as a partner and expanded the product offering to include stairlifts and a broader range of lifts, propelling the company’s growth. As the company evolved, EMS moved from providing service and maintenance to complete equipment solutions, becoming a full turnkey mobility offering.

In 2006, Joe Muir partnered with Mick and joined the company, and the following year, EMS opened its state-of-the-art headquarters in Baldock, where they remain to this day. The facility boasts the most comprehensive range of stairlifts found anywhere in the UK, showcasing the company’s range of lifting solutions.

EMS has always been a family-led and driven company, and in 2006, Mick’s son Matt joined, followed by Joe’s son Alex in 2010. Matt and Alex worked their way up through the company to now hold Director roles and are instrumental in the running of the company.

Steve Francis, General Manager, and his son Jack Francis, Senior Engineer, also exemplify the company’s commitment to supporting and developing its staff. Steve joined EMS in 2007 as an Engineer and 10 years later, asked if Jack could join as an apprentice. Both have progressed through the company to now hold senior positions.

When asked recently about his EMS journey, Steve responded “I began at EMS as an engineer and quickly realised that I could add value to the business. I liked that the business encouraged development and I could see that it was a welcoming place to work. When Jack came out of college and was looking to find a career path I couldn’t think of a better company than EMS Lifts to help him develop as an individual and have been proud of the impact he has had at the company”.

Senior Public Access Sales Manager, George Mocan, joined the company in 2015 and saw a future for his family within the business. A year later, his wife, Ligia Mocan, interviewed for an administrative role and now heads up the accounts department. Her daughter also helps out with office duties while studying for university.

In 2020, Mick Armstrong retired from the company, and as part of the succession plan, Greg Muir, was brought on board to uphold the company’s legacy. Greg has founded and led multiple award-winning companies with a strong emphasis on customer service. Greg’s background in technology has helped EMS utilise tools to become more efficient allowing EMS to spend more time servicing customers’ needs and reacting more quickly to urgent enquiries
