Mission Statement

At EMS Lifts, our mission is simple: to provide freedom in mobility. Since 1988, we’ve helped people live independently in their own homes by delivering high-quality stairlifts, home lifts, ramps and mobility solutions — always backed by friendly advice, expert installation and 24/7 support.

Our History

In 1988, Leonard Edgell and Thomas Halsey founded a partnership trading as Electro Mechanical Services (EMS), specialising in the servicing and repair of stairlifts and Gimson lifts and hoists. In 1995, Thomas Halsey left the business and Michael Armstrong joined as a new partner. When Len Edgell retired in 2006, his share passed to Jonathan Muir, and in 2007 the partnership was incorporated as EMS Lifts Ltd.

From these beginnings as a small family-run lift repair service, EMS has grown into one of the UK’s most trusted mobility specialists. Operating from our headquarters and showroom in Baldock — the largest stairlift showroom in the country — we welcome customers to try our products before making a decision. Despite our growth, we remain true to our roots: a family business built on care, service, and independence.
